Spider-man jailed in Shanghai on a skyscraper

2 Jun. 2007

The Frenchman Alain Robert, more famous as "Spider-man" was caught by the Chinese police for the illegal climb on the one of the Shanghai skyscrapers - reports the radio station "France-Info" on Friday with the reference to the representative of the French consulate.

According to their information, Robert got in jail for five days but now the general consulate of France in China tries to negotiate with the local authorities to reduce the period.

on Thursday the 44 years old "Spider-man", acting as usual, without any technical aid has climbed the 87-storey skyscraper which has about 420 meters height. Right after the climb he was arrested for the public disorder and went to jail.

As the Shanghai police department says, the Robert's actions has led to overcrowding of the streets and traffic jams what in fact has paralyzed the normal activity of the quarter where the skyscraper is located.

The brave Frenchman has begun his climbs already in 1994 and since that time has managed to get famous in many countries. He performs most of his climbs illegally and the French council departments abroad usually have to take him out of the jail and to settle up conflicts with the local authorities.
