Tomato fights in Spain

23 Jun. 2007

La Tomatina is a food fight festival held on the last Wednesday of every August (the 29th of August this year) in the town of Buñol in the Valencia region in Spain. Everyone can take part in this merry fight; the signal to start is set at 11 AM, and the crazy "batalia" begins.

The rules are simple: one can fire the tomatoes - tones which are brought on special trucks - upon everyone who is around you. No one is allowed to bring into the fight something that may cause injuries, and it is strongly recommended to squish the tomatoes before throwing. The fight ends between 1 and 2 PM when the water cannons are fired. After that all the participants clean themselves up using the water from fire trucks.

La Tomatina is a very popular festival, so in order to get in the number of the participants it is better to book the places in advance
