The most exclusive restaurant in Italy has been opened at prison Volterra near Pisa, where the chefs and waiters are Mafiosi, robbers and murderers. Tables are booked up weeks in advance, and it's tricky since the restaurant is open only one day a month, thus working there is considered to be part of prisoner's rehabilitation programme. Diners are thoroughly vetted by the Ministry of Justice in Rome and anyone who seems suspicious is turned down. Before getting in, the clients are obligated to produce the ID cards, hand in their mobile phones and handbags and pass through the metal detector as well.
Prison authorities consider restaurant business to be of great use both for its "employees" and clients. It is of great importance for the inmates to feel useful to the society, whilst the clients most commonly leave the place filled with admiration for the night spent at such a risqué place. |
