Winter Olympic Games 2014 to be held in Sochi

5 Jul. 2007

Russia had a sleepless night celebrating the victory of Sochi in the conquest for being the home of Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games 2014.

Saltsburg city situated in Austria left the first round of voting. In the second round, Sochi got four more votes than Phenchhan. While Southern Korea was crying over defeat, Russians jollily celebrated the victory of the country's most popular resort.

Some people consider that the victory was furnished pretty much by The President of Russia who, to the great surprise of the International Olympic committee in Guatemala, has introduced application of this Russian city in English ending his speech with a call to support Sochi in French.

It is the first time in Russian history when Russia would hold winter Olympic Games. In 1980 summer Olympic Games were held, but sportsmen from some countries did not take part in it because of difficult political situation.
