The authorities of Spanish resort island Ibiza are closing the beaches around the area where cargo ship 'Don Pedro' sank on Wednesday morning. After the accident oil started to leak into the sea.
Playa de Talamanca was the first beach closed to the public, 10 tons of tar has been collected by rescue workers by this time. When the oil spot reached San Figueretes and Evissa beaches, they were closed as well
All the three beaches, reported to be four kms in length, will be closed during at least a month while beach cleaning operation will be continued.
The boat, which was on the route between Valencia and Ibiza, was carrying 150 tons of fuel oil and 50 tons of diesel.
