Cell phone train tickets in Britain

6 Feb. 2007

The british railway company Chiltern Railways offers cheap tickets via cell phone. The tickets are offered for a really low for Great Britain price - 5 sterling pounds ($10). The available routes are London - Birmingham and London - Stratford. These can be bought till 18 o'clock of the day previous to the trip. Available are also only several trains, scheduled not for the peak-times.

To buy a ticket, one should visit the web-site of the company from the mobile phone, buy a ticket and receive an SMS with the ticket bar-code, that should be presented to the conductor in the train. It will be also necessary to leave the platform in London. However the roamed cell-phones may not be able to use the service, so the tourists could use the service with the help of a local or they find another way to re-send the ber-code to their phone. Such tickets are also non-transferrable and non-refundable.
