Costa Rica is going to promote scientific tourism: a hybrid of a hotel and a research centre in the Osa peninsula in the southern Pacific ocean coast will be opened in July, 2008.
The building of a small hotel Cerro Osa with all the facilities and laboratories for the scientific research of the rich flora and fauna of the country will cost to its creators 1, 5 milliard Dollars.
Miguel Rivera, one of the architectures of the project explained that the centre will occupy the territory of 256 hectares; with all this the building area will not exceed the limits of 6 hectares. At the plot located at a distance of 350 kilometers to the North-West from San- Hose, the measures for the protection of environment will be strictly obeyed, and the company which is working on the project promised that there will be no agricultural or industrial activity carried on; besides, the complex will be thickly populated. The hotel for the explorers will be built of wood, and the electricity will be received from sun panels and rechargeable batteries. Besides the centre of scientific research, in Cero Osa will be built 10 comfortable villas for the entertaining tourism, a restaurant, a water pool, a club and a small hydro- massage SPA complex.
