The Tea Cosy Tearooms in the English city of Brighton passed as the most "terrible" institution in the district. Its owner was surnamed The Fascist, and in order to drink a cup of tea and thus not to be thrown out in a shameful way, one should follow a list of strict rules established by the owner.
The owner of the tea house David Daly keeps the prestige of his place as the biggest treasure, thus he has a rather stern temper. Some customers, that "dared" to dunk their cookie in the cup of tea or to put their elbows on the table, managed to assure themselves in that. For all this "indecent actions» they were expelled from the cafe with a subsequent warning to follow the rules of etiquette next time.
Among the other rules that David Daly has established are- to not insult the queen, to not pass the slices of sugar and to not sip the tea from the teaspoon. Also is forbidden to talk on your cell phone or to talk in loud voice, and when the piano is being played on in the cafe - no talking at all.
"People should follow the rules. If they do not do that they should leave the cafe. We offer the real art of tea ceremony, not just cups of coffee, as some usual snack bars", explained the 30 years old owner of the tea house.
According to Daly's words "he is not that severe at all , as he is at work, and he is way not a fascist." All the same the local inhabitants call his cafe "the scariest place» that they "have ever seen", and a group of enthusiasts even created a site, dedicated to the weird cafe. The site has got a forum where the cases of punishment for another "wrongdoing" are discussed regularly.
If talking about websites then it should be mentioned that The Tea Cosy Tearoom has one of his own. Here the guests may found out "the proper way of holding their cups and sources" or the way they should talk ("Conversation should never be louder than two tones above the chink of a tea cup." tells David). And like that was not enough David decided to forbid some items of clothing, for example "no shorts or skirts cut above the knee".
Well on the other hand David is trying to his best to attract clients. His Tearoom offers the possibility of organizing private tea parties, but still try to break one rule and your party is over!
The owner of the cafe tries to not be conservator. And to make something unusual for his guest... How would you like and 1940' s evening with live lounge singer? If you would like something of the kind you are very welcome as long as you follow (again) some "simple" rules: 1940's dress is essential and bring your own wine with you.
There is something more interesting about the site.On every page that is "coming soon» is situated the portrait of The Queen.
I guess this is not an exactly place for teenagers and for sure is not for business class.
However if you agree with all the terms of the cafe it is waiting for you "with arms wide open" at 107 Southover Street, Hanover, Brighton, BN2 9UA.
