The Museum of ladies' handbags in Amsterdam

Do you collect purses like Imelda Marcos and Celine Dion collect shoes? If yes, then you would like for sure to go to the Museum of Handbags and Purses in Amsterdam that was opened for the second time. The collection arose in the time when its owner that was dealing with antiques bought a handbag from 1820. Nowadays the collection extended considerably and numbers more than 3000 exhibits. At the beginning they were placed in a cottage with 2 rooms, but in June the collection moved in a17th century building in the centre of the city on the Herengracht channel.

The collection shows the history of lady's handbags and purses of western culture, beginning with the 16th century; the attention is being paid to the shape to the functionality to the style and to the fact how up-to-date a certain one was. The exhibits of the collection were developed by the designers form Netherlands as well as from other countries. The Museum is known among the locals as "Tassen museum Hendrikjein", it is opened from 10 AM till 5 PM daily.
