Taxi services will be paid via credit cards in New York

10 Sep. 2007

Since the 1st of October credit cards will be approved to payment for New York taxi service. It will be possible due to GPS system installed in automobiles, which should allow passengers to use an interactive monitor with a city guide, television and also will help to give back property left in taxicabs.

Not many of New York taxi drivers are friendly to the innovation. The New York Taxi Workers Alliance which involves 8400 drivers has even called its members for stopping their work from 5 AM September, 5th till 5 AM September, 7th to voice a protest against the GPS system install. The complaint is simple: with the help of GPS system the dispatcher control can make a point of the taxicab location which will abridge a driver's freedom.

Being under the satellite-assisted control a taxi driver won't have the possibility to get through the whole city a tourist unfamiliar to locality and going to visit a museum situated at the corner of the next square. Now, doing this monkey-business a taxi driver will make himself liable to a fine or even suspended of license.
