The "Eurochocolate" festival runs for 9 days starting with October, 13. Its core center is located in the historical part of the city.
In a couple of years the fair in Perugia has earned the sympathy of its guests, having made Perugia the European capital of chocolate. For nine days the Umbrian chief town transforms itself in a huge open-air pastry-shop, exciting greedy for chocolate persons and cacao slaves.
Dozens of big events concentrated on the "food of the gods" with exhibitions, laboratories, cooking classes, tasting, expositions, banquets and the final Eurochocolate Awards will be organized at the festival.
Each year new themes and entertainments are developed here, like for example "the chocolate prisoners" of the 2001 edition. In 2003 a record has been cracked at the Perugia festival. The biggest choc in the world with 5.8 tones weight, 2.15 meters height and 2.31 meters diameter has been produced and eaten here. It took 1000 human hours to cook it and just several hours to eat it.
It is also an occasion for tourists to discover the most remote corners of this antique medieval center and to enjoy the famous Umbrian hospitality.
It is highly recommended to come here not only during week-ends, when the most important affluence is forecasted, but to stay a bit longer to have time to enjoy not only various chocolate types but also the artistic beauties of the city.
