Drastic increase in the number of sleep-walkers who walk in public places in their sleep almost naked urged the network of British hotels to start special staff trainings and teach the hotel personnel deal with the naked night-owls.
According to the British hotel network "Travelodge" which includes approximately 300 business-class hotels, the number of sleep-walkers has increased seven times during the last year. 95% of them walk in their sleep naked, fact which often confuses both hotel staff and guests.
"We has witnessed a drastic increase in the number of such cases during the last few years, therefore it is of major importance that our personnel should know how to help a sleep-walker when the latter begins to walk", Leigh McCarron, Director of the hotel network, said.
Especially for this purpose "A Guide to Sleep-walking" was published for hotel staff. According to one of its points, the staff should always have a towel at hand in order to hide the sleep-walker's "dignity" if necessary.
In accordance with the company "Travelodge", members of the reception staff are not surprised any more when somebody of their naked guests comes up to them late at night and asks, "Have you got a newspaper?" or "May I check whether I am late for my work?" According to scientific studies, somnambulism may be caused by stress, alcohol, consumption of an extra large amount of caffeine or even cheese. As a rule, somnambulism manifests 1-2 hours after falling asleep, when the person is sleeping deeply.
