The steeple of one of the German churches has broken the record of the Leaning Tower of Pisa and even has been brought in the Guinness Book of World Records as the most inclined building in the world.
They have submitted an application for the bell tower in the Frisian village Suurhusen in June, and now it has already officially broken the record of the inclined tower in the Italian Pisa.
After scrupulous measurements it has been established, that the rural tower has deviated from vertical for the angle of 5, 19 degrees. For comparison the declivity angle of the Leaning Tower of Pisa does not exceed 3, 97 degrees.
The church has been constructed in the middle of XIII century, but the 30-meter tower has been added to the basic building in 1450. The bell tower has been constructed on the wooden base, a combination of the basis from wood of an oak and damp ground has led to the fact that the tower has begun to slowly decline to one side, which has been proceeding during many years.
There were some attempts to stop declining of the tower beginning with 1982, and finally, the inclination managed to be stabilized in 1996.
There are services and excursions for tourists that are still passing in church, but church bishops ask to give donations to help to keep the building.
Meanwhile local residents have created special Internet site - www.kirche-suurhusen.de, and in the souvenir shop of the community they sell ceramic mugs with a silhouette of the local inclining celebrity to all visitors.
