The travelers are using toilets.... for Photos

27 Feb. 2007

On the "Foreigners-Street" in the Chinese town Chun-Zin, in the area of bars and shops, there were some toilets for men installed a couple of months ago. But the tourists use them mainly for taking pictures.

The new toilet has four cabins, arranged in a circle. occupies only 2 sq. meters, made from ecologically clean materials. It costs $128. And the 50-centimeter wide doors cover only the buttocks of a man.

- Verysimple and practical, - says the inventor - Lu Syaokin. But the new toilet is mainly used by the local janitors and policemen. The travelers prefer to use the traditional lavatories in the establishments. The locals are shy too.

- Even if they don't see anything, the pedestrians see you anyway,- says a teacher called Wang. - I am ashamed anyways.

The inventor of the new toilet plans to install also women-toilets in the nearest future.

Similar toilets were installed for some time also in Paris. They made of steel and painted green. The round doors were hiding the visitor up from the knees and the toilets have had holes at the face-level. Now the French capital has only one toilet of such kind - at the Arago boulevard. But it is very popular.

In Paris there were always lots of public toilets, for example in 1930s - more than 1200. The locals called they "Vespasian Nami", in the favor of a Roman emperor Titus Flavius Vespasian, who imposed a tax for using the public lavatories.
