Tourist Italy - Forecast for the Year 2008

Italians place their stakes on gastronomic and business tourism. In the year 2007 Italy has once again showed the supreme level of its tourist industry, which allowed it not only to hold, but also to improve its footholds in the travel market.

From January till September, tourists have spent 25 billions 264 millions Euros in Italy; that is 1.7% more as compared to the same period in the year 2006. The number of the foreign guests visiting the country has also increased, reaching the record of 20 millions 558 thousands people (+4.7%).

The Italian National Travel Agency considers these figures to be promising in terms of the prospects for the year 2008.

As forecasted by the agency, the number of French, German and Spanish people who are to visit Italy will increase, at average, by 5-8 %.

In some sectors, in gastronomic and business tourism, for example, the 25% increase is expected.

The tourist flow from Hungary and Czech Republic will also increase - at average by 15 %.

Americans are also willing to visit Italy - guest from USA are expected to be by 8-10 % more than in current year.

Though, the most optimistic forecasts of Italians are concerning Russian guests. The agency thinks that in the year 2008, 20-25% more Russians will visit Italy in comparison to the year 2007.
