Hookah smoking will be prohibited in France

23 Dec. 2007

The Ban Smoking Law that will come into effect from the first of January, 2008 will influence not only pubs but also popular hookah smoking houses. Owners of "hookah bars" are very indignant at this: as only smokers visit their establishments, there is no disturbance for the general public. However, in some weeks, owners of hookah houses will have to rebuild them in accordance with the ban: it is necessary to provide a special place for smokers, but it shouldn't be bigger than 1/5 of the whole place area.

Not only the owners of Arabian bars are protesting, but also the owners of "tobacco bars", where the visitors come to enjoy a cup of coffee and to try some exclusive sorts of tobacco. But the government still remains inexorable: it ignored the request for release from the ban of those establishments, that sell tobacco and cafes, which occupy an area less than 100 square meters. It is likely that the French people will be displeased with this law: as it is known France is a country with the largest number of smokers in Europe.
