The third highest waterfall in the world was discovered in Peru. According to the specified data from the National Geographic Institute of Peru (ING), the height of the newly discovered waterfall Yumbilla in the Amazon district Cuispes is 895.4 meters. The inhabitants of the local village knew about this waterfall for a long time, though they didn't care a lot about it.
The scientists started to get interested in the waterfall only this June. The first measurements indicated the height of 870 meters. Before the Yumbilla "discovery" the third highest waterfall in the world was considered to be Gocta. It is also situated in Peru, in Chachapoyas province, and, according to ING, cascades from the height of 771 meters. However, this figure is questioned by lots of scientists.
Besides the revision of Yumbilla's height, scientists have made another correction: it was thought before, that waterfall consisted from three streams. Now they counted four of them. The country's Ministry of Tourism is planning to organize two-days tours to the waterfalls of Yumbilla, Gocta and Chinata (540 meters). |
