It will be forbidden to celebrate New Year with champagne and alcoholic beverages in public places in Italy after 2 p.m. - since this time the prohibition law will operate in all the restaurants, discos and bars. This governmental decree has recently got the force of the law under the number of 160/2007.
The prohibition on selling strong alcoholic beverage in night discos and roadside bars is already operating in Italy for several months. Such measures were imposed in order to decrease the number of road accidents, happening in weekends towards morning when young people return in their cars from discos under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
However, some observers think that the authorities had overdone with issuing of the prohibition law in the day of traditional celebration of New Year. They think that at 2 p. m. the celebration of New Year is in its full pride and the absence of champagne will not add joy to people. Besides this, many of those who didn't plan to use car on that day will probably give up on having fun in public places at all. |
