On January, 6th on Cyprus will pass Epiphany - one of the most esteemed religious holidays. Tourists can take part in the processions, devoted to a christening. Upon termination of the celebratory mass in local cathedrals the religious procession goes to the sea coast where the ceremony of consecration of water takes place. An orthodox cross is lowered in the sea then young men dive for it and return to the cleric. On the eve of the holiday it is usual to consecrate water to clear it of malicious spirits. Fried carp - a traditional celebratory dish of Epiphany. Slices of a carp are dipped in honey, and then fried on the heated frying pan.
As the Cyprian organization of tourism informs, religious practices will pass in all cities of the coast: in old port of Limassol, in harbour of Larnaka, in port of Paphos, in bay Latsi near the Polis and in port Ayia-Napa. |
