No smoking In Tokyo taxi

7 Jan. 2008

Today 95% of Tokyo taxi companies banned smoking in their cars.

Earlier this ban was already introduced in prefectures of Kanagava and Tiba and also in the city of Nagoya. In 2007 almost all the taxi were declared to be "nonsmoking".

Besides Tokyo the smoking ban will be introduced from today in prefecture of Saitama. The idea of the joint smoking ban in taxi was caused by many complaints made by nonsmokers about unpleasant smell inside of taxi cars.

In order to help inveterate smokers, taxi companies are ready to offer their clients special chewing gums in "nonsmoking" taxi. Otherwise the client will be offered to make a stop and to have a smoke outside.
