In the fist half of 2008 in Prague, the city wireless network, using the Wi-Fi technology, will begin to work. With its help tourists and city inhabitants will have a free access to more than 60 websites of the city services and transport agencies, local authorities, telephone directories and the websites devoted to cultural events.
First of all the dwellers of the districts 1, 8, 9 and 12 will be able to use this service, then the districts in the North-East and East of Prague will be connected to it. About 580 points of wireless access are supposed to be created.
The city council of Prague wants to get a grant from the EU funds for the development of the Wi-Fi technology but it is impossible yet. It is supposed to invest 88,8 million crones (more than $10 million) during the next 5 years. |
