In 2007 a smaller number of tourists visited Thailand in spite of the expectancies. According to the Thai Tourist Authorities, the principal problem has become the economical and political crisis in the Kingdom.
In particularly, last year the main negative factors were political instability, terrorism, strengthening of the Thai baht, and also rise in prices for petroleum. Especially it influenced the market of local tourism, where the slump in expenses for journeys was 4%.
According to the Thai Tourist Authorities, 14.8 million tourists from different countries were expected to visit Thailand in 2007. As the annual results showed the number of visitors was 14.5 million people who spend all together 547 billion baht ($1 = 33 baht). The country is expecting 15.7 million foreign tourists to come in 2008. To achieve these aims for 10% in comparison with the last year, the budget will be increased by 3, 959 billion baht. 2, 582 billion baht from this sum will be spent for promotional companies of vacations in Thailand. |
