The authorities of the Belgian city of Antwerp have organized the regular entertainment of local residents with drinks in connection with the approach of New Year's Day, what has already become the annual tradition.
More than 11 thousand people who would like a drink - approximately so many as in 2006 - have gathered on the free-of-charge "New Year's Drink" festival organized by the mayoralty on the central square of the second-largest city of Belgium.
In the kind atmosphere of the holiday in which all the city administration has participated, people have drunk altogether about 5 thousand liters of various drinks, mainly beer.
The local residents and tourists who have gathered in the city centre also free of charge were treated with sweets and "French fries" - the rectangular slices of potatoes fried in oil, the culinary home of which is Belgium. |
