The Parisian Louvre has entered the list of the world's most visited museums. According to the museum's press service, last year pieces of art exhibited in its halls were seen by 8.3 million people. The number of visitors remained the same as compared to the year of 2006. Constant expositions aroused the biggest interest among tourists.
The Louvre is a medieval fortress, built in the end of XII century and later transformed into the palace of the French monarchs. On 10 August, 1793, the gallery opened for visiting and became a museum. At present, its collection includes more than 350 thousand works of all styles and epochs of the world art, from antiquity till the middle of the XIX century. Approximately 32 thousand pieces of arts are constantly exhibited in museum halls. |
