They will remove the Little Mermaid statue in Copenhagen rather far from tourists

20 Jan. 2008

The authorities of Copenhagen consider the opportunity of transporting one of the sights of city - the Little Mermaid bronze statue. This 1,25-meter sculpture, which weights about 175 kg, has been presented to the city by the owner of the brewing company "Carlsberg", Charles Jacobsen. The Little Mermaid statue has been placed on a coastal boulder in 1913, after that it has become a symbol of Copenhagen. Now it invariably attracts the attention of local and foreign tourists.

Unfortunately, the bronze heroine of Andersen's fairy tale became a victim of vandals many times. It has been decapitated twice, covered with paint and even deprived of its hand. The city administration of Copenhagen intends to transport the Little Mermaid statue to a deeper place at the coast - where aggressive tourists will not be able to reach it.
