Sight of Australia - Bondi Beach, the most popular sandy strip, has been included into Australia's National Heritage List, with the purpose of protection of its sand, cliffs, waves, parks and surf lifesaving clubs.
Bondi Beach, Sydney is the third attended place in the country; it is lousy with tourists and in summer days one could hardly make his way there. The Australian National Heritage List includes the Opera House and Sydney Harbor Bridge, now it will protect 65 hectares of this sandy beach also.
Environment Minister Peter Garrett has declared that the role of this beach in the development of the Australian beach culture and the world-known movement of beach rescuers has been estimated. "This beach is a symbol of Australia around the world. Bondi Beach is an embodiment of our country lifestyle. What else could be even more Australian, than Bondi? Sun, sand, rescuers... ". |
