The airport security service in Australian Brisbane has assumed the unprecedented severe measures against the headwear of the religious passengers.
During the control on embarkation and debarkation passengers now are obliged to take off any headwear including turbans, hijabs and Jewish skullcaps.
At least one international flight was delayed, when the security officers asked 13 Sikhs to take off their turbans, and a Muslim woman to take off her hijab.
In normal international practice the passengers are asked to take off their religious headwear only in case, when there was an alarm signal during the control. The airport employees state that the order to force passengers to take off their headwear came from their front office. "We just were told to do so, or else we are fired" - said one of the employees.
The head of the Australian Sikh Organization has expressed his concern about the incident and added that he wasn't treated like this in any other airport in the world. |
