Vienna Musicians will be dismissed from the streets

27 Mar. 2008

The citizens of Vienna protest against the street musicians, whose performances attract huge amounts of tourists to the capital of Vienna. The population of the city got plenty of the constant noise on the streets. The owners of small shops and dwellers of the houses, located in the districts with highly-attended streets of Graben, Kaertner and the Stefan Square have gathered 534 of signatures under a petition to the name of the capital district administration with the demand to stop the noise or at least limit the performances of the street musicians and actors.

The locals have proposed to limit the street concerts with one hour and ask to allow these at least every second day. Among the famous people of Vienna that have signed this document, there is the administrator of the Austrian Bank filial that is located on the Stock-im-Eisen square, because the street concerts are louder than the sensitivity level of the alarm system of the bank what could be used by the robbers, and the pastor of the St. Stefan Church - Toni Faber, who does not manage to perform his service because of the noise.

In the nearest time, the project of the limitations of the performances of the street musicians will be considered into attention on a meeting of the Vienna Mayor office.
