Weather anomalies in Europe

24 Mar. 2007

Winter is back to France: on the north and east the temperatures are about 10-15 centigrade lower than expected for this time of the year - the end of March. The traffic is almost paralyzed on various roads due to the snowdrifts. The snow banks are huge not only in the mountain districts, but even on the Corsica Island. There the temperatures were only a few days ago - not lower than 20 centigrade.

A huge storm was devastating the Turkish capital. There are no victims but dozens of buildings have suffered numerous damages. The wind has also tested the building quality of the Ankara airport. One of the terminals has almost lost the roof.

Rumania suffered also from the strong wind but there it was only an addition to another disaster - flood. The result of melting snow and very frequent rainfalls is that all rivers in the eastern and central parts of the country have flushed and even the barricades made of sacks filled with sand do not help. The main roadways are already blocked. According to the meteorologists, the rain is not going to stop in the nearest time.
