Please no mobile phones in the Austrian trams

17 Apr. 2008

The mayor of the second great city of Austria - Graz has prohibited the usage of mobile phones in trams and other kinds of public transport. This decision has been supported by the 68% of the citizens. There are currently no fines for the violations, so it is unclear if the novelty will have success.

According to the local newspaper Kleine Zeitung, the ban arouses critic from the drivers of the city transport that are afraid of the reduction of the passenger traffic - especially young people that are the main clients of the mobile network companies and businessmen. The restriction does not affect the sending of SMS without sound and the usage of the Internet.
