In February the European Commission will obligate all the airlines of EU countries to create a personal database of passengers. All people who enter the European Union will have to pass through the threefold inspection including biometric verification.
The EU Commissioner for justice, freedom and security Franco Frattini shares Washington's worries about the intentions of terrorists to use Europe as a platform for attacking the USA.
"These measurements are absolutely necessary. We have signed an agreement with the American security services. And it is time for Europeans to accomplish it. Terrorism is still the number one threat to all people".
The new system of gaining and holding the information about clients of airlines will have been made by 2009. It will be analogous to that of the USA and Canada. It will hold digital photographs and the fingerprints of all those who request to enter Schengen. Besides the biometric data the system will hold personal details of all the passengers.
In 2007 the European deputies rejected the analogous offer of Brussels. And today critics of the proposed plan are worrying that it will bring to the violation of personal human rights and freedoms on account of the introduction of unnecessary levels of control. |
