The new eruption at the Krakatau volcano site. The new volcano - Anak Krakatau has began to throw out burning stones. It has been formed at the place of the destroyed old one in the Sunda Strait, dividing the Indonesian Islands Sumatra and Java. The eruption began yesterday about 6 o'clock GMT. It is supposed that the volcanic tremors will be only stronger, because the burning stones are being thrown out of the crater to the height of 600 meters. Currently there is no threat to the population, because there are no towns in the nearby locations. It is prohibited for the tourists to approach the volcano closer that three kilometers. In the summer of 1883 the sound of the powerful Krakatau eruption has spread to more than 5 thousands kilometers and the tsunami that came after has traveled round the globe for several times. All population on the islands located in 20 kilometers from Krakatau - not less than several dozens thousands of people - became victims. |
