The German motor club ADAC has published another safety rating of the automobile tunnels. The results are worst for the last five years: more than 30 of the examined European tunnels do not comply with the safety rules. The "first place" takes already for the 4-th time the Italian Cernobbio tunnel near the popular resort at the Como lake. This 2,4 kilometer long tunnel, opened in 1983, lacks from dispatcher service, automatic smoke sensors and emergency phones. Besides, there are too few emergency exit paths and they are not indicated correspondingly.
In the total rating of the European countries, the worst place takes the Norway: the state of all the three functioning tunnels in the country has been considered inappropriate. And the best tunnel has been found in the small state of Andorra. Built through the Pyrenees the 1,3 kilometer long Pont Pla tunnel has been opened in 2006. |
