SAS will solve the "late boarding" passenger problem

29 Apr. 2008

The SAS airline has decided to try to solve the problem of the passengers that are constantly late for the boarding to the plane. The flight delays because of the passengers that have passed the registration - settle up in the airport bars or duty free shops - and forget about the boarding time - are costing millions to the airlines. Usually, they are simply being called with the use of the airport intercom system, but this method works not always and the plane gets delayed - waiting for the passengers or till their luggage gets unloaded if there was a decision made to get them off the flight. In the Copenhagen airport - that is the base one for SAS, the problem is aggravated by the necessity to pass the security control before the boarding, as in many other airports of the world.

The technology, offered by SAS supposes that the passengers will get a microchip-tag with their boarding pass at the registration, that will allow to track their location in the airport building. In case when the passenger didn't appear at the boarding gate, he will get an SMS or a call to the cellphone. Another option would be an intercom notification exactly in that room of the building, where the passenger is currently located. There are 10 system tests planned in the nearest months and the first ones of these were already successful.
