SAR beaches lose the "blue flags"

18 Mar. 2008

The famous South-African beaches in Durban are losing their status "blue flags". The international ecological organization "Blue flag" assigns flags to the resorts for the best beaches with the cleanest water and environment.

The Durban city, that has been proud with his six flags has already lost four of them and will probably lose another one of the remaining two in the nearest future, because of the inappropriate water pollution.

The reasons of the bad quality of the coastal water are still unclear. It could be the polluted rivers, the illegal sewage or the dirt masses that were brought to the shore by the torrents from other places.

The local specialists are busy with the examination of the problem and assure that they will solve it as quick as possible - to return the "blue flags" to Durban.
