There is a new sight in Brussels. The citizens and guests of the Belgian capital are coming more often to the cathedral located in the center of the city.
In the very center of the European capital, in the tower of the famous St. Michel et Gudule Cathedral a falcon family has built a nest. Probably the stone construction has been appreciated by the birds as their native rocks.
The biologists have managed to install cameras without disturbing the birds and now everybody can watch the life of the feathery predators inside of a megapolis.
One week ago 4 fledglings have appeared in the nest. Now the father-falcon that has been names in the honor of St. Michel is hunting the whole day round and the mother named after St. Gudule does not leave the small falcons even for a minute. The small predators are growing very fast, frightening the cathedral rats, local pigeons and magpies.
The tourists and local citizens are spending hours near the cathedral to see how Michel hunts, sometimes playing with the victims. Of course, in the Brussels sky he does not achieve his top speed of 350 kilometers per hour, but the process is really spectacular anyway. |
