The compilers of the yearly "Global Peace Index" have concluded that the tensioned relationships of Moscow with it's neighbors and the high criminality level - is enough to put Russia in the very end of the most peaceful countries of the world.
The so-called "Global Peace Index" is being formed already for the second consecutive year by the experts from Economist and the representatives of the international centers of analytics. 24 factors are taken into consideration by the creation of the rating, including the crime level, amount of the prisoners, military expenses, arms export volumes, participation in the armed conflicts and the conformity to the human rights.
In the 2008 results, the most peaceful country became Iceland. Iraq is already for the second consecutive year at the end of the most peaceful countries. 16 of 20 of the most "peaceful" states - are the European democracies, mostly members of the European Union.
In the 2008 rating, China has taken the 67-th place, USA - 97-th and Russia - the 131-th. Such low position of Russia is explained by the "moderately tensed" relationships with the neighbors, by the high level of crime and by large volumes of the arms export. |
