The healthcare ministry of Greece is unsatisfied with the measures, approved in 2002 about the smoking restrictions in the country. This is the reason why they have designed a new, more strict law project that completely restricts smoking in closed places and rooms under the roof starting from the 1-st of January 2010. The ban includes private companies, restaurants and night entertainment centers. The document is awaiting approval at the Greece parliament.
The owners of the public establishments will have to dedicate special places for smokers, completely isolated from the main area. The violations will be punished with the fine of 3000 euro. For the smokers in the "non-smoking" zones there is a fine of 300 euro.
Currently in Greece, in spite of the measures, introduced 6 years ago, people smoke almost everywhere: in the clubs, restaurants, hotels (in lobbies as well as in the rooms) and other public places. |
