The Mermaid Parade will take place on the 21-th of June in New York. The event takes place in Brooklyn, Coney Island already for the 26-th time. But this tradition can be interrupted, because exactly here in the nearest future a construction of an entertainment park is planned. And if this parade will be the last one - it is simply another reason not to miss it.
The Mermaid Parade, dedicated to the summer, sea breathe and saltwater begins at 14:00 and appears as a colorful procession of people dressed in various costumes, not always directly linked with the sea. Sometimes the dress are so revealing that the participants are sued for the violation of the public order. The parade is conducted by the Neptune and the queen of the seas - the Mermaid. Celebrities are often invited for these roles. In the past times you could see David Jonansen, Queen Latifah, David Birn, Moby and other stars of the musical and cinema scene.
Another event, linked with the parade - is the Mermaid Parade Ball. After the participants have overcome the necessary distance, having made symbolic sacrifices to the sea gods, they gather at a party to listen to the music, take part in toe lotteries and contests and just to have fun. |
