The cultural department of the Stockholm commune has allocated 34 million krone (about 3,5 million euro) for the creation of mini-libraries in the subway. The goal of the project is to cover the population groups that cannot get to a library because of the lack of time or just because of the simple laziness.
Now every citizen can take a book actually on the way home or to work. Thanks to the special book-o-mates (machines that are automating the process of the book handling) a person can take or give back a book in seconds. Taking into consideration the fact that 75% of the city population uses subway daily, this project will make the citizens of the Swedish capital to readers, at least so they think in the culture department.
Besides, in the Stockholm libraries the Wi-Fi access is for free; so at the subway stations, where the libraries will be locates, it will also be free for the tourists. |
