The Egyptian archaeologists together with colleagues from the Dominican Republic have found near the shore of the Red Sea a previously unseen statue of the Greek love goddess - Aphrodite.
The digs have been performed in the northern part of Alexandria coast in the ancient Taposiris Magna, located at the Marut lake that is called Lake Abu Sir in the modern geography.
Among the artifacts that were found during the digs there is not only the wonderful bronze goddess, but also an alabaster statue of the Egyptian empress Cleopatra and the Rome commander Mark Anthony that was the lover of this great woman, according to some historical evidences.
The Egyptian ancient matters council has informed that the findings were revealed inside of the Taposiris Magna - the temple that has been built during the reign of the Ptolemy II (282-246 B.C.). |
