The organizers of the yearly boat festival in the coastal Scottish town Portsoy have announced a restriction for whistling, trying to guarantee good weather during the festival that has suffered from bad weather last year.
The superstitious sailors of Portsoy believe in an ancient omen that tells that whistling in the sea brings bad luck. As the head of the organizational committee of the festival explains, whistle in the sea and nearby teases the devil that sends strong wind as a revenge. However, singing and muttering under one's breath is still allowed. |
