Leaving a moving vehicle is prohibited for the Cypriots

23 Jun. 2008

The new traffic rules of Cyprus include some special directions for the drivers: so, the inhabitants of the Aphrodite island are recommended not to but heads or limbs while driving out of the car and also... not to leave the vehicle while it moves. There is an interesting driving manner on the island - the local drivers can control the vehicles with elbows and knees and during the heat hang out half of the body out of the window.

There are also other typical situations: friends-drivers meet on a busy street and stop, blocking the traffic and talk for a couple of minutes, leaving without attention the horns of the other irritated drivers. The Cyprus authorities do their best to complete the task of the European Community to reduce twice the total amount of the road accidents till 2010. The traffic rules are getting changed exactly because of this. Besides, during 6-9 months there will be electronic cameras installed that control the vehicle speed. Cyprus is now one of the leaders among the European countries in the rating of the amount of the accidents with lethal outcomes.
