The Greenland glacier has revealed the mystery of the global climate change on the Earth

28 Jun. 2008

The drilling of the Greenland glacier by the scientists from Denmark, USA and Japan has allowed to reveal how the climate has been changing during the last 125 thousands years. The scientists have revealed that drastic climate changes can happen instantly during only several years.

The ice shield of Greenland NorthGRIP has been formed out of show that fell down year after year and has turned into ice under the pressure of the covering masses. Each yearly layer of ice reveals the temperature and the amount of precipitations, composition of the ancient atmosphere and the evidences of time and power of distant hurricanes, fires and volcano eruptions.

The scientists have revealed that the first sudden warming took place 14,7 thousand years ago. But the global warming has turned into global cooling and the ice age has been back 12,9 thousand years ago and has ended 11,7 thousands years ago. According to the scientists, such quick climatic changes will cause serious adaptation difficulties even to the modern society.

The analysis of the ancient climatic changes can be critically important for the correction of the existing mathematical climate models that allow to determine in particular the future progress of the climate.
