A three-day long peach holiday starts today near Kavala in the northern part of Greece.
The local authorities are arranging large-scale festivities already for the fourth year, to advertise the main product of the village. They are using scientific approach, starting the holiday with a conference with leading topics like "European peach market events" and so on.
All visitors can eat peaches free of charge.
Greece is the second European producer of peaches after Italy. In 2007 the country has produced 236 thousands tons of selected peaches, 98 thousands tons of nectarines and half a million tons of peaches with clingstone. |
