The reason of the catastrophe of the fashionable cruise lines "Sea Diamond" by the shores of Greece is the crew mistake.
This was officially committed by the owner-company. The captain and five members of the crew are already charged with criminal negligence. The liner that had 1600 people on board ran aground near the Santorini island.
This rock is present on all the sea maps and already in the first days after the tragedy there were supposes that the members of the crew could not have been aware of it.
The rescue teams has managed to evacuate almost all the passengers. The destiny of two tourists from France is still unknown. Till now they are counted as missing. Supposedly, their bodies are in one of the cabins.
Their search is performed now by a underwater robot. His task is also to examine the fuel tanks. They have about 400 tons of fuel and if it gets into the water, the resort zone Santorini has to suffer a serious ecological disaster. |
