Moscow is the most expensive touristic city in the world

24 Jul. 2008

Moscow is already for the third consecutive year the winner of the most expensive city for the tourists in the world. The rating has been composed by the Mercer Human Resource Consulting.

Tokyo has taken the second place, having climbed two steps to the top compared to the year 2007. The third place took London that has taken the second position in the last year. The fourth and the fifth places tool Oslo and Seoul. The cheapest one (the 143-th place) in the world became the Paraguay capital - Asuncion - already for the sixth consecutive year.

The researchers have taken into consideration prices for more than 200 various goods and services (including housing rental, food and gas) in 143 cities of the world. The starting point is the cost of a shopper's basket in the most expensive city of USA - New York - that has climbed down seven steps in the actual Mercer rating and took only 22-th place.

The prices in Moscow are almost one and half times higher than those in New York, Shanghai, Amsterdam or Madrid.
