After the abolishment of the communal real estate tax, the Italian cities have lost significant amounts for their budget and now are looking for a way to fill this gap. The Venice authorities are planning to introduce a ticket for the city visit.
If each tourist pays one euro, the yearly Venice budget will gain additional 18 million - this is the average amount of tourists that visit the city each year. This easy method has been proposed by the Venice burgomaster, the philosopher Massimo Cacciari. To implement this novelty, the city needs approval of the country government.
The idea of a ticket to Venice has of course already gained it's supporters and enemies. The organizers of the touristic routes and excursions are supporting the Idea, because their clients already spend about 100 euro per person and an additional euro wouldn't be of a great importance.
The owners of the hotels are against, because they share the opinion that the new law will hit the pockets of the one-day tourists, that not only refuse from a night stay in the city, but even take food with them, spending as the result, practically nothing in Venice. |
