The tourists that want to visit the beer festival Oktoberfest in Germany may be left without places in the traditional tents that are raised on a meadow in the center of Munich. The sixteenth festival will start only on the 20-th on September, all the tickets to the tents are already sold out. According to the Angela Ofenstein, the Hofbrau tent manager that has a 700 persons capacity, people began to place reservations for the places in the tent already in January.
"Oktoberfest" is famous all over the world for their huge beer tents (or beer pavilions), each one welcoming huge amounts of people - from 1000 till 10 000 guests. All of them are controlled by the same entrepreneurs each year. It is usually a family tradition that goes through the generations. Only Munich breweries are admitted to take part in the festival.
Oktoberfest, often also called by the locals "Wiesn" (meadow) is one of the largest folk celebration in the world. It is a holiday of beer, brezels, roasted chickens, roundabouts and perfect mood that attracts about 6 million visitors each year that come to Munich from all over the world.
The festival takes place a Theresenwiese (Theresa Meadow) in the center of Munich, not far away from the central railway station in the middle of September - beginning of October each year. |
