Airplane passengers will be allowed to talk on the phone during the flight

28 Jul. 2008

In spite of the continuous public protests, the largest low-budget European airline "Ryanair" will allow during the next month the usage of cellphones onboard. The recent poll has shown that 86 percent of the Britons are strictly against the fact that anybody uses a cellphone onboard.

Another four airline carriers - "Air France", "Bmi", "Emirates" and "SAS"have began preparations for such an experiment and there are eight more that still only consider such a possibility.

In the middle of August, "Ryanair" will allow the cellphone usage on the board of it's ten planes. After that, the experiment will be expanded over the rest of their fleet during the next six months - currently there are 164 planes. In this way, the airline will be the first one who will test this contradictory service.

According to the press secretary of the airline, Daniel de Carvalho, "Ryanair" will analyse the demand for this service and will certainly consider all the suggestions and complaints.

The European Commission has approved in the beginning of the year the usage of the cellphones in the planes and the telecommunication companies have approved the corresponding plan already in April. The American authorities are less liberal and continue to oppose this novelty.
